SUNRISE, Fla. ā The body of a woman pulled from a canal in Sunrise on Tuesday afternoon has been identified by family members as 41-year-old Marimar Roman Cora, who they say had been missing for ten days.
They gathered there on Wednesday evening to hold a vigil and create a memorial for her.
Sunrise police said they discovered a car with a body inside near the 8400 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard around 2:30 p.m.
Coraās brother identified her body, confirming it was Cora, who authorities said had been missing since Aug. 3.
According to her brother, who asked to remain unidentified, Cora, who worked at Tin Fish restaurant in Sunrise, was last seen that night after her shift when she went out with co-workers to a nearby restaurant.
Her brother posted an emotional video on Facebook, thanking the people who have shown support to his family.
āMy sister was found in the car, drowned,ā he said. āIām out of tears right now and just trying to process this.ā
Joseph Melluso, a co-worker of Coraās at Tin Fish, described her as a ādynamic and beautiful personā who was loved by customers and staff alike.
āShe was great to work with,ā Melluso added. āWe have heartfelt regret and condolences for the family; to go through this is awful.ā
The circumstances surrounding how Coraās body ended up in the canal remain under investigation.
Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the body, stating only that they will share updates as they become available.
