BSO probing whether deputies pursued driver before deadly crash

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Local 10 News has learned new details about a violent central Broward crash over the weekend that left two people dead and a third in critical condition, all caused by a speeding driver.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened at around 4 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Sixth Street, near the unincorporated Washington Park and Boulevard Gardens areas.

Gavin Dorvil, 19, of Lauderdale Lakes, was speeding on Northwest Sixth Street in a Tesla when he T-boned a Dodge Durango, deputies said.

Two women inside the Durango were killed and another passenger was critically injured. The Durango also hit another vehicle, causing it to flip.

Damadrick Hugley, a witness, said, “You felt the wind pass you, the car going by fast. It was like boom, boom, boom after that.”

Hugley recorded video of the aftermath, showing the mangled Tesla and police as they handcuffed a man in red.

The video captures the chaos following the deadly crash. Suddenly, a man appears frantic, asking for his daughter, shouting, “Where the F--- is my daughter at?”

Several witnesses, including one man who tried to help the victims, spoke with Local 10 News.

A total of five people were taken to the hospital.

Trumane Simpson, another witness, said, “We helped. We were the ones that got them out of the car.” He added, “She had no pulse. Still, I was praying with her.”

Simpson also mentioned seeing BSO deputies chasing the Tesla, saying, “I (saw) a high-speed chase. No lights, no sirens.”

When we asked BSO about this, they responded in an email, “The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing, as is an administrative review of the incident by (internal affairs) to determine if any deputies were pursuing the Tesla.”

A firearm was found at the scene, believed to belong to the Tesla.

The crash remains under investigation.
