MIAMI – A woman is facing several felony charges with more possibly to come after police said she walked away from a crash in downtown Miami over the weekend that would leave two people dead and two others hurt.
Bystanders had to grab the accused driver, Maecee Marie Lathers, 24, and bring her back to the scene Saturday morning, a Miami Police Department arrest report states.

According to police, she shouldn’t have been behind the wheel in the first place; her license has been suspended since Jan. 16.
Police said Lathers, of Miami Gardens, was speeding in a white Mercedes sedan south on North Miami Avenue just after 6:45 a.m. when she blew a red light at Eighth Street and slammed into a black Range Rover driven by a 24-year-old man.
Both vehicles then collided with a Suzuki sedan with three people inside, police said.
The rear passenger of the Suzuki died at the scene while its driver died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the arrest report states.
Police said the other passenger was taken to JMH with facial and arm lacerations; the Range Rover driver had minor injuries.
Lathers would also be taken to JMH, police said, but not before she started walking away from the crash scene without rendering aid or calling 911.
Police would later arrest Lathers on eight felony charges, including two counts of leaving the scene of a crash causing death.
The report states a DUI toxicology test was pending.
According to Miami-Dade jail records, Lathers remained hospitalized in JMH’s Ward D and her mug shot wasn’t available as of Monday afternoon; her bond had yet to be set.
