VIDEO: Local 10 photographer witnesses chaotic rollover crash at red light

Photographer Josh Salazar aided in rescue efforts with his tripod

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Video shows a chaotic scene unfolding in North Miami Beach on Saturday night when an SUV flipped onto its side after a crash at North Miami Avenue and Northwest 167th Street.

It occurred right in front of a Local 10 News photographer, Josh Salazar, as he was waiting at a red light. He captured the aftermath on his cell phone.

“I saw the black SUV just driving normally in their lane and then this golden car trying to pass the SUV. Immediately, they crashed,” he said.

He helped the good Samaritans who rushed to assist those trapped inside the overturned vehicle by running to his vehicle to grab a tripod in an attempt to break the windshield.

“You wanna break the windshield? Use this,” Salazar is heard saying in cellphone video. “Use this to break the windshield.”

The impact left the black SUV on its side and the gold sedan significantly damaged.

Five people, including two small children, were inside the SUV.

“Once they were all out, they were just all in shock,” Salazar said. “They were crying, they really didn’t know what happened. Actually, one of the drivers asked me what happened, ‘Like if you know, just tell me.’”

All five occupants of the SUV managed to crawl out safely and the driver of the gold sedan also walked away from the crash.

The vehicles were later towed away as Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and North Miami Beach police began investigating what led up to the crash.

Salazar said everyone involved was alert and walking afterward.

Local 10 News contacted North Miami Beach police for an update.
