SUNRISE, Fla. – Authorities jailed a man on 15 criminal charges on Thursday in connection with a deadly late June crash in Sunrise.

Police said Andrew Kennedy Brown, 36, of Wilton Manors, was driving 112 mph seconds before the crash and had a blood alcohol level of nearly twice the legal limit.

According to an arrest warrant, Brown was driving a 2023 Lexus IS 350, headed east on West Oakland Park Boulevard when he broadsided a Nissan Sentra turning left to head south on Northwest 64th Avenue just after midnight on June 30.

All four people inside the Nissan were killed. Their names were redacted from the arrest warrant.

Police said Brown told medics that he had just left a “club” off North University Drive and had had two drinks before the crash.

That club, authorities said, was Shisha 954, located at 8354 W. Oakland Park Blvd. They said he spent three and a half hours at the establishment and shared a bottle of Hennessy with an acquaintance.

Police said a toxicology report completed on July 29 revealed that Brown had a blood alcohol level as high as 0.151%, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08%.

Brown was being jailed without bond as of Friday on four counts each of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter, three counts each of DUI with property damage and reckless driving with property damage and one count of DUI with a blood alcohol level of more than 0.15%.

He was held in the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail facility as of Friday morning.
