After failed suicide, Miami-Dade mother to appear in court over her twins’ death

Court sets Shirlene Alcime’s arraignment for Aug. 23

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A mother suspected of poisoning her twin toddlers before a failed suicide attempt on Feb. 2 was set to face more charges in Miami-Dade County court. She had a status hearing on Friday.

Witnesses reported Shirlene N. Alcime walked away from her three-year-old fraternal twins, Milendhet and Milendhere Napoleon-Cadet, who were in her car along Interstate 95.

The boy and the girl, who had foamed at the mouth, died at Jackson North Medical Center. Alcime, 43, of North Miami Beach, survived a jump off an overpass in Miami-Dade.

Alcime was hospitalized after the fall. Police officers arrested her on Feb. 5. Miami-Dade correctional officers have been holding her without bond since Feb. 15 at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Miami-Dade prosecutors charged her with two counts of child neglect with great bodily harm before the results of the two toxicology reports were available.

The court scheduled an arraignment hearing for 9:30 a.m., on Aug. 23. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Ellen S. Venzer was presiding over the case.
