MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – After a unanimous decision by the Miami Beach City commission, Cuban American Singer Gloria Estefan will be honored, and 13th Street will soon be Gloria Estefan Way.

In September 2023, Gloria Estefan was highlighted for her contributions in South Florida and the Women’s Commission of Miami Beach proposed the renaming.

The street is located between Meridian Avenue and Ocean Drive.

According to a media release, in March 2024, Estefan was also included in a Lummus Park Exhibit titled “Ten Women Superstars” which highlighted 10 female stars of screen and stage, who have all performed in Miami Beach at least once during their careers, for Women’s History Month.

“These women have defied conventions, shattered barriers, and left an indelible mark on the music industry,” shared Lynette Long, who chairs the Miami Beach Commission for Women, which is sponsoring the exhibit along with the Miami Design Preservation League.

A county commissioner must sponsor the naming and the county commission would need to be approved in a resolution.

Estefan is a Grammy award winning singer, the owner of the Cardozo Hotel on South Beach, along with her husband Emilio Estefan, and a long-time Miami Beach resident.
