Feds capture Canadian fugitive wanted in Miami Beach nightclub murder

Deshawn ‘Thorobread’ Davis also suspected in Ontario kidnapping

REDWAY, Calif. – Authorities captured a man on “most wanted” lists in two countries Monday; the crime that landed him on U.S. Marshals’ radar was a 2023 murder at a Miami Beach nightclub.

Deshawn Davis, 36, was also on Canada’s “25 Most Wanted” list after police said he was involved in a 2022 kidnapping in Ontario.

U.S. Marshals said Tuesday that they apprehended the Canadian national, known as “Thorobread,” in Redway, California, a small unincorporated town in the forests of the state’s northwest, about three-and-a-half hours north of San Francisco. He was placed on the agency’s “15 Most Wanted” list last Thursday.

Miami Beach police suspected Davis of being the gunman in a triple shooting at the GALA Miami nightclub at 235 23rd St. on May 7, 2023.

Lowell “Lo” Grissom, a South Florida rapper and talent scout for Chris Brown Entertainment, was shot dead during a party at the venue while two women were hurt.

Authorities “believe the murder was a targeted attack with a gang nexus,” according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Grissom’s mother released the following statement following the capture:

“I’m grateful for Miami Beach homicide as well as the US Marshal’s service for their hard work and diligent efforts, they’ve worked hard for this pinnacle moment. This is the first step towards justice for my son and now I put my faith in God and the justice system.”

Davis was already considered a fugitive in Canada at the time. Ontario Provincial Police had charged him and two others in the Jan. 12, 2022 kidnapping of Elnaz Hajtamiri.

Hajtamiri was taken from a relative’s house in Wasaga Beach, Ontario to an SUV before disappearing and has not yet been found.

Hajtamiri’s ex-boyfriend was charged with her murder.

“It is our hope that this apprehension brings justice to his victims and safety to the community,” Ronald L. Davis, the director of the U.S. Marshals Service, said in a statement Tuesday.

Authorities haven’t yet said when Davis is expected to be extradited to South Florida.
