Florida Keys under tropical storm warning, flood watch

Surge-prone areas at risk for up to 2 feet of flooding

KEY LARGO, Fla. – A tropical storm warning and a flood watch by the National Hurricane Center were in effect on Friday night in the Florida Keys, from Key Largo to Key West.

Meteorologists expect a system to strengthen into Tropical Depression Four on Saturday and later into Tropical Storm Debby before landfall on Sunday in Florida.

Locals prepared on Friday for flooding at the Florida Bay Outfitters, at 104050 Overseas Highway, in Key Largo, and were going to suspend the paddling adventures.

Local officials asked residents and tourists to expect a stormy weekend, as the area was in the forecast path and at risk for coastal flooding and gusty winds.

Forecasters warned there was a potential for up to 2 feet of water above ground within surge-prone areas.
