Police: Suspect on probation leads officers on brief chase in stolen pickup

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A suspect was arrested after leading police on a brief chase in a stolen pickup truck.

It happened late Thursday afternoon in northern Miami-Dade County.

According to police, officers observed a black GMC Denali that had been reported stolen out of Broward County as it was traveling south on I-95 and exiting onto the westbound lanes of State Road 826.

Authorities said an officer attempted to pull the truck over after it exited at Northwest 12th Avenue, but the driver, identified as 35-year-old Joseph Gianino, accelerated, crashed into a vehicle and got back on SR 826, this time heading east.

As the truck approached the Golden Glades interchange, police said Gianino crashed into three other vehicles but kept going, then crashed again into a box truck, causing the box truck to roll onto its side.

After initially trying to flee the scene, police said they were able to take Gianino into custody.

He’s facing multiple felony charges and is being held behind bars due to having already been on probation for fleeing and eluding, police said.
