Coconut Creek police warn of scammers posing as officers

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – Scammers are impersonating Coconut Creek police officers, asking for personal information and money, authorities warned Friday.

According to Scotty Leamon, a spokesman for the Coconut Creek Police Department, the fraudsters are cloning the department’s Real Time Crime Center phone number, 954-973-6700, to appear legitimate on Caller ID.

Officials urge the public to hang up immediately if they receive such a call.

The latest scam comes after Coconut Creek police recently advised residents to delete any emails claiming to be from PayPal or other parties requesting personal information.
