MIAMI – A man and a woman were arrested Wednesday following a police chase in the city of Miami, authorities confirmed.

According to their arrest reports, Ariane Rodriguez, 31, of Lake Worth, was behind the wheel of a white Audi Q5 SUV, which had been used during a shooting incident in Palm Beach County the day prior.

Miami police said tactical robbery detectives were working a violent crime detail Wednesday afternoon when one of the detectives spotted the Audi heading west on Northeast 79th Street near 10th Avenue.

A man identified as Jonathan Lozano, 34, of West Palm Beach, was sitting in the passenger seat, according to the arrest reports.

Police said detectives attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Rodriguez fled from the detectives, striking one of the detective’s unmarked police vehicle in the process.

According to the arrest reports, a pursuit ensued and Rodriguez, at one point, drove against traffic, causing another driver to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision.

Police said Rodriguez ran a stop sign and red light before crashing the SUV into the same detective’s vehicle as before, causing that car to roll over onto its side.

Even after striking the detective’s vehicle, Rodriguez “continued to rapidly accelerate the vehicle into the front” of the detective’s car, her arrest report stated.

Police said Rodriguez and Lozano were then taken into custody.

Rodriguez was arrested on charges of aggravated battery on a police officer, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, fleeing and eluding police at a high speed and driving with a suspended license.

Lozano faces a charge of resisting an officer without violence.

It’s unclear whether the two will also face charges in connection with the Palm Beach County shooting, although their arrest reports state that the shooting was indeed conducted by a man and a woman.

According to their arrest reports, the detective whose vehicle was struck was transported a hospital to be treated for his injuries.

As of Thursday morning, Rodriguez was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where her bond had yet to be set.

Lozano was not appearing in the online jail database.
