Stanley G. Tate, creator of Florida Prepaid college program, dies at 96

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The man credited with making college possible for countless Florida children has died.

Stanley G. Tate, who created the Florida Prepaid College Tuition Program, passed away on Friday.

He was 96 years old.

Tate, who graduated from the University of Florida, was also one of South Florida’s most well-known builders and philanthropists for several decades.

The Florida legislature renamed the pre-paid program in his honor in 2006.

Services were held on Sunday at the Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg Rubin Zilbert Memorial Chapel in North Miami Beach.
