South Florida couple celebrates 75 years of marriage

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A South Florida couple is celebrating 75 years of marriage this July.

William and Joan Nelson are both 95 years old and they met when they were just 14.

William is a World War II veteran and a retired Miami firefighter.

He and his wife have shared their secrets for a long and loving relationship with Local 10 News.

“I wanted her to have nice things,” said William Nelson.

“I’m the luckiest woman in the world. I have a great husband, three of the most beautiful babies you have ever met. I had no other reason but to stay together, because we’re very happy together,” said Joan Nelson.

The Nelsons are enjoying their diamond anniversary at their home in Coral Springs on Tuesday.

Their family tells Local 10 that only one percent of the world’s population sees a diamond wedding anniversary.
