FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Three-year-old Rylo Yancy was in a playground going down a slide when he was shot and killed six days ago in Broward County. His case remained unsolved on Saturday.
Rylo was the guest of a boy celebrating his first birthday party in the shaded playground and picnic area of the Riverland Park & Pool in Fort Lauderdale. It ended in tragedy.
Detectives suspect shooters fired at each other from two Mercedes-Benz C300 on Sunday near Southwest Ninth Street and 26 Avenue and Rylo was the unintended victim.
Surveillance video helped Fort Lauderdale detectives seize a new red Mercedes-Benz C300 and a black 2017 Mercedes-Benz C300 they believe was involved in the shooting.
Eight-year-old Chasity Fort, Rylo’s cousin, was also at the children’s party. He described what he witnessed during a news conference with Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis.
“He was going down the slide and it was a gunshot and it shot his eye and then my mom had him in his arms,” Chasity said on Wednesday.
Trantalis asked the public for help with tips. Broward County Crime Stoppers increased the reward for information leading to an arrest or arrests in the case to $10,000.
Detective Juan Rodriguez asked anyone with information about the case to call 954-828-6673 or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
