MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Iveson Cheri is 18 years old and he is already accused of killing a man while driving with more than double the Florida legal blood alcohol limit for drivers who are 21 or older.
Cheri was released on bond on Saturday. During a bond court hearing on Sunday, the judge set his bond at $10,000 for the vehicular homicide charge and $5,000 for the DUI manslaughter charge and ordered him to avoid driving.

On the morning after Cheri turns 19, he is set to appear in court for his arraignment hearing in the death of Mekhi Tariq Hoosein-Quiles, 21, of Miramar, who had stopped at a red light before he died on July 2, in Miami Gardens.
Records show a judge issued a warrant for Cheri’s arrest on Wednesday after detectives accused him of driving a light blue 2022 Infiniti Q60 into the back of Hoosein-Quiles’s orange 2005 Ford Focus at about 4 a.m., on July 2, at Miami Gardens Drive and Northwest 22 Avenue.
Days later, during a funeral, grieving relatives remembered Hoosein-Quiles had made them proud when he graduated from Miramar High School, kept a job at McDonald’s for five years, and was set to attend St. Thomas University.
According to the arrest report, Cheri had a .205% alcohol level and was speeding. He was hospitalized after the crash and had a scar on his forehead when officers arrested him on Friday.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Christine Hernandez is set to preside over the case at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building.
