Mariot said Hallandale Beach police officers assisted by pursuing the vehicle while it was in their jurisdiction and ended the chase prior to the driver crashing and bailing out of the vehicle in Hollywood.

According to Hollywood police, the occupants of the vehicle bailed out of the car in the 2600 block of Mayo Street.

Colbert Elementary School was temporarily placed on lockdown as a precaution as a summer camp is currently in session, authorities confirmed.

Police said two women who were passengers in the vehicle were initially detained, but have since been released.

Mariot said the Broward Sheriff’s Office K9 unit helped in the search for the driver, but the culprit has yet to be found.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
