Police said Cheri’s 2022 blue Infiniti Q60 was traveling 95 mph when it struck the 2005 orange Ford Focus that was being driven by Mekhi Tariq Hoosein Quiles, 21, propelling the victim’s car 223 feet into a bus stop.

The speed limit in the area is 40 mph.

Quiles was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the warrant, Cheri was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Cheri did not step on the brakes prior to the crash.

According to the warrant, officers at the scene saw “signs of possible impairment,” including “slurred speech,” and noted that he “was very disoriented and confused.”

A blood draw showed that his blood-alcohol level an hour after the crash was .205 percent, authorities said.

Cheri faces charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide/reckless manner.

As of Friday morning, he remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help Quiles’ family with funeral expenses.
