Man shot dead by Miami police after firing rounds at building in Little Havana

MIAMI – A man has died following a police-involved shooting in Little Havana, authorities confirmed Thursday afternoon.

He was identified Friday morning as 64-year-old Ramon De Jesus Blanco.

The shooting occurred just after 1 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Southwest Third Street and Southwest Fifth Avenue, just west of Interstate 95, according to Miami Police Chief Manny Morales.

Morales said officers responded to a call about an armed man shooting a gun into the air and toward a building in the area.

He also said during the encounter shots were fired, and the culprit was shot and killed. No officers were injured.

A Local 10 News crew was at the shooting scene where Blanco’s family members were seen crying near the intersection where the shooting was reported.

Local 10′s Rosh Lowe also spoke with residents at the scene as Miami police continued to investigate.

“I heard six shots,” a woman said. “I’m very worried because it never happens here.”

No other details about the shooting were immediately released.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting.
