HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Family members of a hit-and-run victim are seeking justice while hoping their loved one recovers.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. on July 13.
The victim, 30-year-old Lorena Santos, was crossing Hallandale Beach Boulevard at Northeast 14th Avenue when a car slammed into her and kept going.
Her husband of just two weeks received the call that his new wife was in the ICU in critical condition.
“Her pelvis, she broke her humerus in her arm in two places, and then obviously, the brain injury, which was brain bleeding,” said John Sutphin, the victim’s husband. “I want justice for Lorena. First I want her to get better. We’re progressing.”
That progress is happening slowly.
Although Santos’ memory is still foggy, detectives are investigating and Sutphin has been checking in with police daily.
“We’re hoping they can get more footage from somewhere,” said Sutphin.
Police believe that the vehicle was speeding before hitting Santos and leaving her on the side of the road.
“A good bystander is the whole reason she’s alive right now,” said Sutphin.
