MIAMI – Nathaniel Medor is a 17-year-old Life Scout from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Miami focused on earning his Eagle Merit Badge.

To achieve this, Medor embarked on an Eagle Scout Service Project, which is an opportunity for a Scout to demonstrate leadership through service to the community.

For his project, Medor chose CRIB, a program designed by Citrus Health Network to mitigate trauma for kids during difficult transitions, such as the removal from the care of their parents.

“I chose the CRIB as my project to ensure that those in foster care, who began in less fortunate environments, could have improved new beginnings prior to what they could have otherwise experienced,” said Medor.

The kids who enter the CRIB program need everything from clothing to personal hygiene items. Medor decided he would help meet the need.

In a matter of weeks, he raised nearly $5,000 to fund his project, enough to help 51 kids in need.

Along with fellow members of Troop 816, the high school senior sorted and packed the donations for various ages.

Each bag contained up to seven days of undergarments, clothing items, school supplies and even a new children’s book. Each bag was also color-coded according to gender and tagged to indicate the size of the clothing.

“My experience with this project was challenging yet beneficial as I dedicated countless hours to producing registries and organizing fundraisers to donate clothing and essentials to less fortunate foster children,” said Medor.

Last month, Medor delivered the items to Citrus Health Network.

In a letter addressed to Medor, Leslie Veiga, director of communications, wrote: “Thank you so much for the incredible donation and all the hard work that went into collecting items and raising funds.  That is no easy feat, and you were very successful at it.”
