Man with ‘Love’ last name stands accused of stabbing trans teen 18 times at MIA

Judge says 17-year-old victim suffers wounds to ‘arms, shoulders, neck, face, and head and legs’

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A judge read a police report and told a 29-year-old suspect during a Miami-Dade County court hearing on Monday that he was accused of stabbing a 17-year-old victim 18 times with a butcher knife.

According to Miami-Dade detectives, Alexander Love also attempted to throw the teen over a railing on a fourth floor shortly after 11:30 p.m., on Saturday at Miami International’s Terminal J.

During the bond court hearing, Love stood before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Mindy S. Glazer wearing a green suicide prevention vest and handcuffs. He had scratches on his face.

Glazer said the teen suffered wounds to “arms, shoulders, neck, face, and head and legs.”

According to police, the bloody crime scene prompted a false rumor that there was an active shooter. Witnesses said they heard someone shout — “RUN!” — and panic followed. Police officers arrested Love and found the knife. They also evacuated the area.

Love allegedly told police that he was under the influence of a drug during the attack.

Fire rescue personnel took the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

Witnesses identified the victim as a woman, and authorities as a teenage boy. The victim’s relatives said there were conflicting reports about gender because the teen is trans, so she does not identify with the sex she was assigned at birth.

The stabbing remained under investigation as a potential hate crime.

Love was facing charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and premeditated attempted murder. Glazer denied bond, so Love remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

The victim remained hospitalized on Monday evening. Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
