DORAL, Fla. – Patrick Smith was on probation for grand theft in Broward County when he appeared in Miami-Dade County court on Thursday over his alleged role in a burglary at the Trump Organization’s Doral property, a prosecutor said.

Police officers arrested Smith, 32, on Wednesday at the Doral Police Department’s station after detaining him at his home and questioning him about the theft of Honda generators and copper wire cables valued at $147,707.

An anonymous tipster and cell phone data helped a detective identify Smith as a suspect in the Oct. 2 theft of dozens of generators at Trump National in Doral, ahead of the LIV Golf’s Oct. 20-22 season finale, police said.

During a news conference after the burglary, Doral Chief Edwin Lopez said the burglars dressed as construction workers and used a white pickup truck.

According to the arrest report, Smith said he was visiting his son in Pennsylvania, but detectives were able to disprove that with the timing of the flight.

Court records show Smith is facing charges of first-degree grand theft, burglary of a dwelling, and burglary of an unoccupied structure. A bond court judge set his bond at $30,000 and required him to prove that the source of the bail money wasn’t associated with a crime.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Zachary N. James was set to preside over the case. Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
