San Francisco 49ers star helps South Florida kids get ready for back-to-school

DAVIE, Fla. – A professional football star with South Florida roots was in town to help local kids get ready for the new school year.

San Francisco 49ers player Jon Feliciano partnered with his alma mater, Western High School, for a backpack giveaway on Thursday.

Hundreds of students and parents in the community gathered to get their free backpacks for the upcoming school year.

“Not having much, this school and this community has always had my back, so when I made it to the NFL I gave back to the school and the community,” said Feliciano.

Feeding South Florida also joined the event as they distributed 300 snack packs to help students learn about healthy eating.

“We’re also here to make sure that kids have food over the weekend, especially during the summer months when it’s difficult to get free breakfast and free lunch at the schools,” said Paco Velez with Feed South Florida.
