‘This was senseless’: Family devastated after teen killed in North Lauderdale drive-by shooting

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A family is in mourning after 18-year-old Bryanna Nina was killed in a drive-by shooting while waiting for an Uber in North Lauderdale Monday evening.

According to Nina’s family, it happened outside a small apartment building at the corner of Southwest 76th Avenue and Tam O’Shanter Boulevard.

Nina and her younger sister Eliana had been visiting a friend, which their mother, Marisol Rivas, says was a common routine during an exclusive interview with Local 10 News.

“They were close friends,” said Rivas. “She was always either at our house or her friend’s house.”

Authorities said around 6:45 p.m. the sisters called an Uber to go home and waited outside. A dark-colored car pulled up, and multiple individuals got out and started shooting.

4 p.m. report:

Police confirmed Nina was struck by several bullets and was rushed to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead.

“We just asked, ‘Are you shot? Are you okay?’ Then we saw her fall to the ground and just held her,” Eliana said.

“She never came back,” said Rivas while tearfully recalling the moment she received the devastating call from the detective. “Everything came crashing down into a million pieces.”

Bryanna Nina was looking forward to graduating from high school next year.

Now, instead of planning her graduation, her grieving family is left to arrange her funeral.

“If you have any information about the car or the people involved, please reach out. We want justice for Bryanna. This was senseless,” Rivas pleaded.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

Nina’s loved ones have started a GoFundMe account to help cover funeral expenses and assist her family with counseling costs as they navigate this horrific, unexpected loss.
