Miami-Dade County hosting Adopt-a-Tree event in Homestead

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Miami-Dade County’s Adopt-a-Tree program is holding its second free tree giveaway of the year this weekend.

It will take place on Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Harris Field Park, located at 1034 NE 8th St. in Homestead.

According to Miami-Dade County, here is who is eligible for the free trees:

Single-family and duplex homeowners who live in Miami-Dade County qualify to receive two free trees and will be able to choose from a variety of tree species: Barbados Cherry, Black Ironwood, Crabwood, Dahoon Holly, Grafted Mango, Green Buttonwood and Soursop.

Those wishing to obtain trees are encouraged to pre-register, which can be done by clicking here, though the county says “it does not guarantee trees or tree preferences when supplies run out.”

According to Miami-Dade, since the Adopt-a-Tree program began in 2001, the county’s Division of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) has provided more than 242,039 free trees to local residents.
