Boy remains hospitalized after shooter kills his mother, man, injures 2 others in Broward

Drive-by shooting kills 2, injures 3 in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Two-year-old Deagoo Henry remained hospitalized on Friday after he was injured during the drive-by shooting that killed his 28-year-old mother in Broward County.

Deagoo’s father, D’Angelo Henry, said they were grieving Tiarra Holliday, who died shortly before 8 p.m., on Monday, in Fort Lauderdale. Henry also told Local 10 News that Deagoo was no longer in a medically induced coma.

“He had went through two surgeries now. They took part of his skull out because a bullet grazed his skull,” Henry said.

In all five people were shot at Northwest Eighth Street and 10 Terrace. Two died and three were injured.

“Tiarra’s heroic instinct led her to shield Deagoo, but both were struck by gunfire,” Angela Mathis wrote on a GoFundMe page. “One of the witnesses on the scene could hear Tiarra’s screams, ‘Someone save my baby, get my baby,’ as she continued running.”

Holliday, who was shot in the head, somehow managed to run to the Convenient Discount Food and Deli to make a last plea for help for Deagoo before she died.

“Her body would fall to the ground inside the convenience store and his blooded body would lay in the street,” Mathis wrote.

Deeago’s grandmother Shontrelle Holliday said she was proud of Tiarra’s heroism.

“She did everything she could to save her baby’s life,” Shontrelle Holliday said. “That was definitely the person who she was. She would have preferred to save him over her.”

The shooting also killed a man identified as Sheldon Lawrence, a 45-year-old father who later died at the Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. Two others were injured.

On Thursday, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department released surveillance video of the shooting and announced the recovery of a gray sedan.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
