Girl, 11, shot in Miami, rushed to hospital by father

MIAMI – Miami police are investigating a shooting that they said left an 11-year-old girl critically injured Tuesday.

According to police, the shooting was reported around noon at 200 NW 17th St.

Police said relatives at the scene told officers that the girl’s father drove her to Holtz Children’s Hospital.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene where investigators were focusing on the first floor of an apartment in the area.

The girl is currently listed in critical condition.

Miami Police Chief Manny Morales told Local 10 News there is no active search for a shooter and that officers are speaking with individuals who may have been involved.

“There’s nobody out there posing a threat to the community and we have everyone involved in custody at this time,” Morales said. “Nobody has been arrested. Everyone’s in custody and being interviewed.”

“It breaks my heart because it’s so unfortunate that a young girl, just 11 years old, could possibly lose her life,” said Jazmin, a woman who lives nearby.

Police said the circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.

No other details were immediately released.

Anyone with further information is asked to call the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
