Police said officers responded to the scene after multiple people called 911 to report that they saw Beatriz Milagros Aguero, who is homeless, heading toward the park’s exit in her car while her black dog was outside of the vehicle.
According to the report, officers blocked Aguero’s car and she became “irate,” saying she was walking her dog outside of her car because it was “covered in s***” and she was attempting to “dry him.”
Police said witnesses told officers that they saw Aguero hitting her dog in the park bathrooms before getting into her car and driving away, dragging her dog from outside the vehicle.
The witnesses told offices that they tried to stop Aguero, but she told them to “f*** off” and “mind their own business.”
According to the report, the witnesses tried to flag her down to stop her and even stepped in front of the vehicle, but she sped off, continuing to drag her dog as it struggled to keep pace with the vehicle’s speed.
Police said one witness took cellphone footage of the incident.
Aguero was arrested on an animal cruelty charge.
According to the arrest report, her dog was taken by Miami-Dade Animal Services.
As of Monday afternoon, Aguero remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
