MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The search is on for a shooter after a party ended Sunday night with gunfire in northwest Miami-Dade.
Police say one man was rushed to the hospital.
All of this happened along a large canal in a neighborhood near the Golden Glades area along South River Drive and Northwest 12th Avenue.
Police said what started as an argument resulted in a shooting, with the suspected shooter fleeing the scene on a Jet Ski.
According to Miami-Dade police, some sort of gathering was taking place at a home when an argument broke out among several people just after 7 p.m.
Soon after, investigators said someone pulled out a gun and opened fire at the house where that get-together was taking place.
The bullets ended up hitting a 31-year-old man who was there. Local 10 was told that someone at the party returned fire.
Paramedics rushed the victim to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital in stable condition.
For several hours Sunday night, a Local 10 News crew was at scene as detectives placed evidence markers on the ground and spoke to several neighbors.
According to some of the people we spoke to, the home in question is known to host parties.
“This neighborhood becomes a mess because of these people here,” said frustrated neighbor Erica Willingham. “This is a residential area. It’s not supposed to be like this.”
“On Sundays, they shut down the street, and they just don’t care -- they completely disregard for everybody. People parking all over our driveways, blocking our driveways, they just don’t care,” one neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous said.
Local 10 reported about another shooting at the very same home two years ago after multiple people were shot during what was advertised as a “Jet Ski party.”
One of the four victims in that case later died at the hospital.
Records show the property was previously registered to a religious organization, but is now bank-owned.
At this point, it’s not clear what started the altercation in this latest incident, or whether the shooter was known to the victim or the people hosting the party.
“We have no peace here,” said Willingham. “The police, they come. They’re not doing anything.”
