DORAL, Fla. – A 54-year-old convicted felon wanted in Sarasota County was awaiting extradition behind bars on Saturday in Miami-Dade County.
According to Sarasota Police Chief Rex Troche, there was a fatal shooting shortly after 1 a.m., Thursday, near Dixie Avenue and 24 Street, in Sarasota’s Newtown area, and Kevin Holloway fled in a 2011 Nissan Altima.

Hours later, Holloway — who detectives considered to be armed and dangerous — was caught in Miami-Dade County. Correctional officers booked him at 7:55 p.m., at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center near Doral. They were holding him without bond.
Holloway has been in and out of prison since 1996. State records show his convictions go back to a case of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in 1995 and cocaine possession, a carjacking, and a hit-and-run crash in 1999.
According to state records, the Florida Department of Corrections last released Holloway from prison on Dec. 29, 2021, after serving time for convictions in Sarasota related to cocaine possession and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
After the shooting early Thursday morning in Sarasota, Holloway was facing new charges of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and two counts of aggravated assault.
