HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A man’s feet dangled from the ceiling of a Homestead storage facility Thursday morning, providing an unexpected source of amusement for those gathered outside.
The would-be thief was visible through the transparent windows as he struggled to manage his attempted escape.
As the culprit tried to pull himself up, onlookers couldn’t contain their reactions.
“What an idiot,” one person was heard commenting on cellphone video.
Another onlooker added, “Oh, s---! He’s going to fall. Let him, let him.”
Eventually, the would-be thief fell back inside the SmartStop warehouse, located off South Dixie Highway near Southwest 304th Street.
The transparent windows provided a clear view of the man’s failed escape attempt, eventually leading to his arrest by police in a nearby parking lot.
A man who recorded the video of the Homestead warehouse break-in says the alleged thief has targeted the storage unit warehouse before.
According to the witness, the man had previously stolen tens of thousands of dollars worth of sneakers from his storage unit.
Local 10 News has reached out to Homestead police for information on the culprit’s age and identity.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Homestead Police Department at 305-247-1535 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
