The parade begins at 10 a.m. and is expected to last about two hours, with normal traffic flow anticipated to resume by 1 p.m., Linhardt said.

Authorities advise the public to avoid the area during these times if possible.

Linhardt anticipates the Fourth of July holiday will bring heavy traffic throughout the Florida Keys, both on the roads and on the water.

According to Linhardt, here are some safety tips motorists and mariners should look out for on July 4.

  • Traffic enforcement: Deputies will be actively monitoring roadways for impaired and unsafe drivers. Linhardt said drivers should expect “strict enforcement against passing in no-passing zones or center turn lanes.” He also advised travelers to allow extra travel time and anticipate delays from the 18-Mile Stretch to Key West.
  • Sober driving: Designate a sober driver for your car or boat to prevent accidents and ensure safety.
  • Water safety: Extra deputies will be on the water to monitor mariners. Be patient and courteous at sandbars, marinas, and boat ramps, which are expected to be busy.
  • Fireworks safety: Leave fireworks to professionals to avoid injuries and accidents.
  • Trash disposal: Dispose of trash properly to avoid littering charges and keep the environment clean.

Authorities also reminded the public about the importance of planning ahead and exercising caution to ensure a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July celebration.
