BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are still searching for the killer who gunned down a woman who was riding in a convertible Polaris Slingshot last year on the Fourth of July.

According to authorities, the shooting was reported shortly after 7:15 p.m. on July 4, 2023, in the 2900 block of Northwest Eighth Street.

Detectives said Destiny Bucknor, 19, was the passenger in the Slingshot, which was being driven by a man.

They said the driver was heading west on Northwest Eighth Street when someone shot at them, striking Bucknor.

Bucknor was transported to a local hospital where she died.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Bucknor’s mother told Local 10 News last year that her daughter battled lupus and wanted to be a firefighter.

“It’s a different type of pain when you lose a child,” Brittany Bucknor said. “I just hope that someone has the courage to speak up because at the end of the day, when all of this settles and I sit by myself, I can’t get her back.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
