1 dead after other driver runs red light at Miami Gardens intersection

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A deadly crash on Miami Gardens Drive shut down a portion of the road early Tuesday morning. According to police, it was all the result of a driver who ran a red light.

The crash happened sometime before 5:45 a.m. at Miami Gardens Drive and Northwest 22nd Avenue.

A Miami Gardens Police Department spokesperson said the driver of a gray Infiniti heading west on Miami Gardens Drive ran the red light, slamming into an orange Ford Focus traveling south on Northwest 22nd Avenue.

Medics pronounced the Focus driver dead at the scene while the Infiniti driver was taken to an area hospital, according to MGPD.

Police haven’t released the names of anyone involved.

Authorities haven’t yet said what charges, if any, the Infiniti driver will face.

Editor’s note: Miami Gardens police initially told Local 10 News that the deceased victim was driving a Ford Taurus at the time of the crash, but an arrest report stated the car was a Ford Focus. The article has been updated.
