According to the Broward Sheriffā€™s Office, the victims were 4-year-old Janelle Souffrant and her mother, Beatrice Saintvil.

ā€œThe vehicle was parked in the left break down lane,ā€ BSO spokesperson Claudinne Caro said in a news release. ā€œHollywood Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported Saintvil to a local hospital where she later died. Sadly, her daughter was pronounced deceased on scene.ā€

FHP troopers temporarily closed the Florida Turnpike in both directions on June 7. A tow truck removed a car that was riddled with bullets on the front and back passengerā€™s side.

ā€œAt the request of FHP, BSO homicide detectives responded to the scene and are currently investigating this fatal shooting,ā€ Caro said.

FHP troopers and BSO detectives asked anyone with information about this case to call BSO Homicide Detective Ryan Schnakenberg at 954-321-4247 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app.
