Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Champions: How the traffic cone made it to the rally

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – There was an orange traffic cone on stage during the Florida Panthers Stanley Cup Champions rally on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale Beach and it was no coincidence.

Aaron Ekblad wore it as a hat. For some the cone, was a cryptic message. For others, it was a way to poke fun at a critic. Suddenly it became clear that Ekblad was trolling a professional golfer from West Palm Beach.

“[Expletive] you, Brooks Koepka,” Ekblad said to the microphone while standing behind a podium and holding the cone over his head with both hands.

Koepka, 34, held up a traffic cone from the fans’ stands and shouted expletives at Ekblad, 28, during a losing game against the Rangers last season on March 25, 2023.

“[Expletive] traffic cone,” Koepka said.

The whole thing was so offensive that over a year later Ekblad remembered and got his revenge. Ekblad held the cone with one hand and put the other on his chest to tell his fans he was grateful.
