STOCK ISLAND, Fla. – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after the body of a man was found over the weekend in the water off Stock Island.
According to MCSO spokesman Adam Linhardt, a passerby stumbled upon the body in the mangroves off Fifth Street around 1:20 p.m. Sunday.

He said the victim’s identity had yet to be determined as of Sunday night.
In addition to MCSO deputies, the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission also responded to the scene.
Linhardt said autopsy results are pending.
The investigation remains ongoing.
