MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division conducted an operation Thursday targeting businesses selling alcohol in the Upper Keys.
Out of 18 businesses checked, four were found to have served alcohol to a minor, according to MCSO spokesperson Adam Linhardt.

The clerks responsible were issued a Notice to Appear before a Monroe County judge.
According to Linhardt, the businesses in violation were:
- Valero, 99675 Overseas Hwy., Key Largo
- Denny’s Liquor, 99600 Overseas Hwy., Key Largo
- Mobil, 92439 Overseas Hwy., Tavernier
- 7-Eleven, 90270 Overseas Hwy., Tavernier
He said the penalties for these violations include up to 60 days in jail, a $500 fine, $235 in court costs, $75 in prosecution costs and $40 in investigation costs against the sales clerk.
Licensees face the following penalties:
- 1st Offense: $1,000 fine and a 7-day suspension
- 2nd Offense: $3,000 fine and a 30-day suspension
- 3rd Offense: Revocation of license
The remaining businesses were found to be in compliance with the law.
The operation was “conducted in cooperation with the Monroe County Coalition for a safe and drug-free community,” Linhardt said.
