MIAMI – A Jamaican-American man who travels to the Caribbean island nation regularly vanished nearly two weeks ago in Kingston.
The U.S. State Department’s advisory asks Americans to “reconsider travel to Jamaica” due to ongoing issues with medical services and violent crime including homicides.
Fabian Hammond, also known as Fabion Hammond, boarded a flight at Miami International Airport and arrived on June 15 at the Norman Manley International Airport.
“He hasn’t spoken to anyone at all; it’s just kind of alarming to us. It’s not in his nature to go MIA, and not let anyone know what he’s got going on,” said Fiona Hammond, his daughter, on Thursday.
A friend picked him up from the airport and Hammond, 62, left his luggage at his home in Allman Town, a relative said, according to The Star’s report. A relative in South Florida said Hammond was building a small strip mall in Saint Ann.
“He is actually proud of the business that he is building up right now. He tends to like to brag about it, so I mean, just the fact that he went MIA. There is nothing being done to the business is just kind of alarming to us,” Fiona Hammond said. “That’s what is scary.”
Hammond was scheduled to return via Miami International Airport to get back to his home on June 30 in Miramar.
Hammond is related to Beres Hammond, a 68-year-old Jamaican reggae singer set to perform in August, at the Au-Rene Theater at Broward Center For The Performing Arts.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force released a flyer on June 18 reporting Hammond was last seen on June 15 at his home in Kingston, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and blue shoes.
Jamaica’s national police and Hammond’s relatives asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to call The Allman Town Police at 876-922-2842.
