FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Thursday morning in Fort Lauderdale.
According to an FHP news release, the crash, which involved a 2020 white Cadillac SUV and a pedestrian, occurred just before 5:15 a.m. on the southbound Interstate 95 exit ramp to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 595.

Troopers said the pedestrian, identified only as a 43-year-old Black man from Lauderdale Lakes, crossed over the travel lanes of the exit ramp for unknown reasons before being struck by the SUV.
The victim was hit by the front right corner of the vehicle as the driver attempted to avoid him, authorities said. According to troopers, the driver pulled onto the shoulder and called 911.
The first trooper to arrive at the scene performed CPR on the victim until EMS arrived, the news release stated.
Troopers said the victim was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center with possible head trauma, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Troopers confirmed that the driver was checked for signs of impairment, but none were found.
The victim’s identity is being withheld by authorities as they work to notify his next of kin.
