Broward middle school teacher facing 10 child sexual abuse material charges

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ A Broward County middle school teacher who also works at a summer camp is being accused of possessing child sexual abuse material.

Broward Sheriffā€™s Office deputies arrested Quinton Isaiah Womack Wedlaw, 25, of unincorporated central Broward, on 10 felony charges Tuesday, according to jail records.

Broward County Public Schools officials confirmed that Womack Wedlaw worked at Parkway Middle School in Lauderhill prior to summer break. He was hired in January as a science teacher, they said.

According to an arrest report, deputies began looking into Womack Wedlaw after receiving an April tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that he had uploaded child sexual abuse material to a Google account.

The report states that authorities found more than 25 files of child sexual abuse material in the Google account, along with a selfie linking Womack Wedlaw to the account.

Authorities described 10 of the videos, which they said depicted a child appearing to be 10 to 12 years old being sexually abused by an ā€œadult Black male.ā€

The report doesnā€™t state whether detectives suspect Womack Wedlaw took or was seen in any of the videos.

Surveillance video showed deputies surrounding Womack Wedlawā€™s home in the Roosevelt Gardens area before his arrest.

ā€œThere were about four or five cars in my driveway,ā€ neighbor Claudia Norvilus said. ā€œYou never know what kind of people are in your own neighborhood, so you always have to be vigilant.ā€

A judge, after giving Womack Wedlaw a $200,000 bond, ordered him to have no contact with children, to stay away from schools, parks and camps and to have no access to the Internet.

Heā€™s also required to submit to electronic monitoring if released.

In a statement, a BCPS spokesperson said, ā€œThe District and school leadership are aware of this individualā€™s arrest. Due to summer break, he is not currently working at the school. For the upcoming school year, he will be reassigned away from the school and students pending the outcome of the case.ā€
