Officials: 2 injured after explosion causes fire on boat at Key Biscayne marina

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – Two people are recovering after an explosion on a boat in Miami-Dade County.

The incident happened on Sunday at approximately 12:15 p.m. at the Crandon Park Marina boat ramp in Key Biscayne.

According to authorities, a boat carrying four adults suffered an explosion when someone started the engine, which resulted in a fire.

Two people had to be rushed to a nearby medical center by first responders, including one person who was taken by helicopter to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, authorities said.

Officials said the boat was “a 1999 30-foot inboard boat.”

The vessel was left severely damaged after firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and was eventually removed from the water.

There has been no update on the health status of the two individuals who were injured.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
