Police: 1 injured after shooting, car crash in Miramar

Witness reports hearing 7 to 10 gunshots

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Police officers searched for a black four-door Mercedes-Benz after a shooting injured a person in a white Kia that later crashed on Saturday morning in Miramar.

Police officers and fire rescue personnel responded at about 10 a.m., near Southwest 37 Street and 62 Avenue, just west of Miami Gardens. According to Detective Yessenia Diaz, a spokeswoman for the Miramar Police Department, an adult was injured.

Andre Lapalme, who lives in the area, said he was walking with his father in the Snake Warrior’s Island Natural Area, a park across the street from the crash when he heard seven to 10 gunshots.

“It’s kind of surprising at 10 a.m. to have a shooting,” Lapalme said.

A white car crashed into a palm tree next to a first-floor apartment and a parking lot after the shooting. Police officers used crime scene tape to block access to the area. There was a shoe on the ground.

Yiovani Gallegos said he was in his room when he also heard the gunshots.

“Like almost immediately after you would hear one and then another and another — followed by screaming,” Gallegos said.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

This is a developing story. Local 10 News Assignment Desk Editor Joyce Grace Ortega contributed to this report.
