Video shows high-speed chase on I-75 leading to arrest of 3 Broward teens

Authorities say driver was clocked at 107 mph before they used PIT maneuver to slow down vehicle

BROWARD COUNTY – A dramatic pursuit on Interstate 75 last month led to the arrest of 3 teenagers in unincorporated Broward County — and it was all caught on camera.

Florida Highway Patrol officers responded to a report of a speeding silver Kia Sportage that they say was clocked traveling at an alarming 107 mph on the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 36 on May 21.

Authorities said the driver was initially coming from Collier County. The trooper was heading northbound on I-75 when the driver went southbound.

“I activated my emergency lights and siren but the vehicle accelerated, weaving through traffic on the right shoulder,” the responding FHP trooper wrote in an arrest report.

Despite evasive maneuvers by the driver, who authorities identified as 17-year-old Torey Trachson Hollis, FHP executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) and eventually halted the vehicle near mile marker 32 after the first attempt failed.

After stopping the vehicle, police said they found Hollis in the car with two other teens.

“All three individuals attempted to flee but were swiftly detained,” the report stated.

Police said subsequent searches of the vehicle uncovered incriminating evidence.

“We found a handgun, multiple credit and ID cards, and tools consistent with vehicle theft,” authorities said. The SUV, which investigators confirmed as stolen from Collier County, bore visible signs of tampering and lacked a key.

The suspects were transported to the Broward County Juvenile Assessment Center, where their bond amount has not yet been determined as of Wednesday afternoon.

Jail records show all three suspects are facing charges that include grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, fleeing law enforcement officers at a high rate of speed, illegal possession of a stolen driver’s license or identification card and illegal possession of a firearm.

Authorities have identified the teens, however, Local 10 News has decided not to since they are under the age threshold, per our policy.
