Police investigate fatal shooting in Coconut Grove

MIAMI – Miami police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning in Coconut Grove.

According to police, the shooting was reported around 1:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of Southwest 37th Avenue, which is near the intersection of Oak Avenue and Douglas Road.

Police said officers arrived at the scene and found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died, authorities confirmed.

“To hear that he died on a street corner less than two blocks away from where he lives,” said Thaddeus Scott, who was a friend of the victim.

A Local 10 News photojournalist was at the scene as officers centered their investigation around a bicycle with multiple evidence markers placed next to it.

Police were also seen looking into a car and using K9s to investigate.

Residents in the area told Local 10 News that the victim’s nickname was Rolex, but police have not yet released his name.

“I’ve known his family forever,” Scott said. “I knew the guy when he was born.”

No other details were immediately released.

Anyone with further information about the shooting is asked to call the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
