‘Beyond crazy’: Comics worth thousands each swiped from Lauderhill store

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Three comic books, each priced at $7,500, were stolen from TATE’s Comics + Toys + More last Thursday in Lauderhill, the company announced on its Instagram page.

According to the Instagram post, the comics stolen from the store, located at 4566 N. University Drive, were Amazing Spider-Man #1, X-Men #1, and Incredible Hulk #1, all PGX-graded.

PGX, according to its website, provides “impartial, third-party comic-grading.”

“It is beyond crazy that a crime like this happened. We are a family-owned business so this is a devastating hit,” the store posted on Instagram.

One of the store owners told Local 10 News that the thefts occurred in broad daylight between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. that day.

She said the comic books were in a case that have the most valuable items in the store.

“We have like cameras everywhere, checking everyone who came in and just trying to narrow it down and it happened while the store was open,” owner Donna Macflarne said. “I don’t know what kind of person would do that. Like this is a mom-and-pop type family-owned store.”

Store employees ask that anyone with information about the stolen issues calls them at 954-748-0181.

Tipsters may also call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

The store’s social media post did not provide any descriptions of a suspect or suspects.
