Areas of northeast Miami-Dade still underwater following epic storms

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Thursday was another day seeing swamped South Florida neighborhoods.

Some of the worst are located in northeast Miami-Dade County along the border with North Miami.

Yards are underwater and streets look like rivers, with water covering the tires of several vehicles, in the area of Northeast 144th Street and 12th Avenue.

Darla Castillo told Local 10 News that more than just the water came inside her home on Wednesday night.

“Frogs, flying bugs everywhere,” she said. “We were scared. We ended up staying in the living room, because we didn’t feel safe in the bedroom and the water was coming in from all sides.”

There were similar stories around the neighborhood, with many homes still inundated.

One resident told Local 10 News’ Janine Stanwood she and her baby had to escape their home last night when the rain started pounding before sunset and water started seeping inside.

Video from Thursday shows it is still flooded.

Some are concerned for their neighbors who live in the lowest-lying parts of the block.
