TRAFFIC ALERT: FHP shuts down portion of I-95 amid flooding

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol shut down part of Interstate 95 in Broward County Wednesday afternoon as a heavy downpour brought flooding to the freeway, an agency spokesperson said.

Troopers shut down southbound traffic at Griffin Road in Dania Beach, FHP Lt. Indiana Miranda said in an email just after 2:15 p.m.

Miranda said traffic was being diverted at Sunrise Boulevard and drivers can re-enter I-95 at Stirling Road. As of around 4:45 p.m., traffic was reportedly being diverted at Oakland Park Boulevard.

“This closure will remain until further notice and water drains from the interstate,” she said. “Contractors are enroute to pump the drainage system.”

Miranda said there were reports of one vehicle flooded in the area, but no one was hurt.
