In the wake of an internal investigation, investigators said they established probable cause for a series of charges against Rodriguez, including written/electronic threats to kill and/or inflict bodily harm, threats, extortion and tampering with evidence.

Sunrise police didnā€™t provide details about what led them to charge Rodriguez. Local 10 News has requested a copy of his arrest report.

Authorities said Rodriguez was placed on administrative leave without pay, with his police-issued firearm, badge, identification and patrol vehicle confiscated.

Following his arrest, the Sunrise Police Department released the following statement Tuesday:

ā€œThe Sunrise Police Department upholds the highest standards of conduct among its members, and any breaches of public trust are treated with utmost gravity. The actions attributed to Rodriguez stand in stark contrast to the mission, vision, and core values upheld by the dedicated men and women of the Sunrise Police Department.ā€

According to the Palm Beach Post, Rodriguez was previously accused of police brutality on then-18-year-old Ewan Rose on Nov. 18, 2010, more than a year after the teenā€™s acquittal in a sexual battery case.

On Nov. 27, 2010, just nine days after Roseā€™s arrest, former Sunrise Police Chief John Brooks put Rodriguez on administrative leave with pay, forcing him to turn in his gun and badge, the Palm Beach Post confirmed.

Rodriguezā€™s LinkedIn profile states that he has been with SPD since 2008.

He did not appear as an inmate on the Broward Sheriffā€™s Office jail website as of Tuesday morning.
